What to expect during your first consultation?

During your first appointment the practitioner will take a thorough case history to have a deeper understanding of your problem which will help us to form an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. Notes will be made of the case history and will be kept confidential in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998. This will be followed by an examination where osteopath will look and assess the function of your spine and any other related joints. We will ask to remove outer clothing (jumper, jacket, jeans,...), so we recommend wearing flexible clothing such as short, jogging or leggings, a strappy top or a loose t-shirt. This will make it easier for us to move you around during treatment. Once we finish the examination, we will discuss the findings and diagnosis with you and explain which treatment approach would be best for you. The treatment consists of stretches, massage, articulation and manipulations to reduce the restrictions and tension in your body. Also, we will give you some advice that are made up of stretches, strengthening exercises, or little tricks that can help you with your pain.

The initial consultation take up to 60 minutes and a follow up is 30 minutes. The average patient needs 3-6 treatments to improve their symptoms. However, this can vary between individuals and their complaint. Chronic problems will take overall longer to resolve than acute presentations.
